As a songwriter, Barry Gibb shares with John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the record for most consecutive Billboard Hot 100 number ones, each having six. In fact, it is estimated that Barry wrote, or co-wrote with his brothers Robin and Maurice – more than 1000 songs, including many of the massive hit records that gave the Bee Gees seven number one hits in 1978 alone – including Staying Alive”, “Night Fever,” “How Deep is your Love”, and “Grease.”
The list is endless: “You win Again” “To Love Somebody,” “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” “Massachusetts,” Barry Gibb displayed a particular talent for writing for women. Name a diva, and Barry Gibb wrote her a hit song: Diana Ross (“Chain Reaction”), Barbra Streisand (“Guilty,” “Woman in Love”), Dolly Parton (“Islands in the Stream,” with Kenny Rogers) and Celine Dion (“Immortality”).If Burt Bacharach is no longer writing for you, as Dionne Warwick found, get Barry and the boys to come up with “Heartbreaker” and “All the Love in The World.”
